This November, a few states will make the decision whether they’re going to be all in, or all out when it comes to medical and recreational cannabis.
One state to watch is California. Proposition 64 could make the great state of California, the biggest legal cannabis market in the country. That’s if the people vote yes on the measure. Aside from making a lot of money, a vote on yes could mean a lot when it comes to the incarceration of African-American and Latinos
To highlight the importance of the vote is to people of color, the Drug Policy Alliance crafted a video to the disapropriate treatment that African-American and Latino’s have faced over the years from law enforcement over cannabis.
The Eastbay Express points out,
Even though California decriminalized personal marijuana possession in 2010, Black and Latinos continue to get pot tickets at far higher rates than whites in California. They’re also overrepresented among California’s 25,000 or so annual arrests for things like selling pot or growing it. California had nearly 500,000 arrests for marijuana from 2006 to 2015.
In response to those numbers, the DPA released a video highlights the racial and social issues that are on the line along with cannabis this November.
