Today in History: “Friday” Hit Theaters Today in 1995 (Videos)

Where you when Friday hit theaters? I don’t know where I was at the moment. I didn’t end up seeing Friday until sometime later and I had to use the VCR to un-scramble the Pay-Per-View channel to do it. (issa 90’s thing)

Filmed in 20 days, the movie tracks the day in the life of two friends, Chris, played by Ice Cube and everybody’s favorite stoner, Smokey played by Chris Tucker. The cult-classic helped launch the career of comedian Chris Tucker and spawned many quotes that are used to this day.

The film would eventually lead to the realease of a series of films based on Ice Cube’s character Chris that would give birth to the careers of a whole group of comic talent. Mike Epps, Katt Williams, Terry Cruz, and more got their first real taste of commercial fame by being part of the Friday franchise.

Co-writer of the film Dj Pooh shared some rehersal footage with Ice Cube, Nia Long and Chris Tucker earlier today on IG

Check out the original trailer for the Friday and reminisce about the first time you watched Chris and Smokey try to navigate their crazy California neighborhood. I mean, “you aint got shit to do”
