A week after students from Bethune-Cookman turned their back while Secretary of Education Betsy Devos addressed students during the school’s commencement speech, Vice President Mike Pence faced similar protests.
Pence was booked to give the commencement speech at Notre Dame. As he began to speak, Pence was the former Governor of Indiana was met with a slew of students standing up and walking out. Many others sat down, shocked at the protests. Prior to the walkout, valedictorian Caleb Joshua Pine urged a “stand against the scapegoating of Muslims” and criticized Trump’s push to build a wall along the Mexican border.
