We should really start a whole category called, “Old White Guys Give Their Opinion.” If we did, this weeks edition would feature Ken Lagone. The Co-founder of Home Dept put out a theory recently that recipients of food stamps are using their cards to buy cannabis. Lagone made the statement to Neil Cavuto on Fox News.
“Hell, people use food stamps to buy marijuana — that’s illegal — or cocaine, or whatever the hell else people use to get high,” Langone said. “How do we make sure that we don’t take a system that is well-intentioned that becomes badly abused?”
Absurd you say?
I honestly don’t think so. I mean lets be real. We’ve all seen or known of someone who might trade money from their EBT cards for actuall money. What you use that money for, who knows. The problem with all this is, you really can’t regulate how someone uses it. Most people will use it to get food. For those who don’t, there’s really not a way for you to tell if is happening or not.
For all we know, they could be selling their EBT cards for money that they in turn, use at Home Depot? If they we’re buying hardware, would he be upset? What if they we’re using their card to get money to pay for medicine they need because Obamacare might be null and void soon?
Of course people we’re in an uproar. Many took to Twitter, to call for a boycott of Home Depot.
