Def Pictures, WorldStar Hip Hop, Hunting Lane Films and Live Nation Productions have teamed up with Netflix for a hip-hop comedy film—what will be the first scripted project for Live Nation Productions. The star-studded cast includes “iSpy” rapper KYLE, Teyana Taylor, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa, and Blair Underwood, along with cameos from a variety of familiar faces from the hip-hop/rap and comedy industries.
Here’s the plot: “two best friends on their last night together trying to achieve a record deal before one heads to college and the other leaves for military service. In one wild night, a lot will go down before the sun comes up and these two lifelong friends either have succeeded on their quest or must go their separate ways,” Deadline reports.
WorldStar Hip Hop’s late founder Lee “Q” O’Denat was inspired to develop the idea for the film because of his love of such coming-of-age films as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and American Graffiti, according to Deadline.
Produced by Russell Simmons, the film will shoot in New York for what is said to be a six-week project, and is scheduled to release in 2018.
