20-years-ago today, JAY Z released his stellar solo album In My Lifetime vol.1. The follow-up to his major label debut, Reasonable Doubt, the album was, met with criticism after its release thanks to the over-the-top, Puff Daddy’ish video for “Sunshine“.
It took sometime and a few duds (i.e. In My Lifetime vol.3) before people fully recognized the greatness of vol.1. Featuring tracks like “Who Ya Wit” and “Where I’m From” the album was a true evolution of JAY from hustler turned rapper who threatened to only release one album and then retire, to rapper who has dreams of being the best of all-time.
