When you think of the Atlanta music scene, trap drums and auto-tune comes to mind. On the low, there are really dope artist that don’t make the radio, that command a of attention. One of those acts is Jarren Benton.
Raised in Decatur, Benton became a shining star on the indie scene. Influenced by everyone from Wu-Tang Clan to Outkast, his flow is more NYC than Dirty South. His sharp word-play and creativity caught the eye of former indie powerhouse Funk Volume.
Jarren would go on to release three projects with Funk Volume before the label would dissolve. It didn’t take him long to find a new home. Jarren is now on the Roc Nation roster and his ready to take his career to another level.
Jarren came by the CashColorCannabis Podcast recently to discuss his new album Yuck Fu, how he inked his deal with Roc Nation, the day Funk Volume shut down and his plans to expand his touring.
He also let us in on how he found cannabis, what happened when he tried PCP, out-smarting Dizzy Right one night in Colorado and why he’s taking a hiatus from smoking weed.
