Nearly 40 N.J. Towns Have Now Banned Legal Weed

Before the ink has dried on any cannabis legislation in the state of New Jersey, nearly 40 townships in the Garden State have decided to ban legal cannabis.

Lawmakers won’t introduce a bill to legalize until November. Most early drafts allow for towns to say whether or not they want to ban cannabis businesses. So far, close to 40 have said no.

So far the towns of Brigantine and Pleasantville in Atlantic County have already moved to pass ordinances banning weed businesses. Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Franklin Lakes, Garfield, Hasbrouck Heights, Lodi, Mahwah, Midland Park, Woodcliff Lake, and Wyckoff Township, Upper Saddle River in Bergen County, passed an ordinance opposing cannabis legalization as well but has not put a ban on cannabis businesses. New Jersey lawmakers released a draft of the cannabis legalization bill to media. The bill would allow legalizing the use, possession, and sale of cannabis for adults 21 and older.
