The end of a short era! Former Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is now, former Attorney General. Earlier today, Sessions somewhat resigned from his position after more than a year of scrutiny from his boss, President Donald Trump.
Trump called for his resignation the day after the midterm elections. A one-time supporter of Trump, Sessions found himself caught between doing his job and pleasing the President when Robert Mueller began his investigation into whether or not Russia played a role in the 2016 Presidential elections. After months of speculation, Sessions is officially out of his position as of today.
His resignation letter hit the world-wide web shortly after.
Sessions has long been an opponent of cannabis and cannabis legalization. When it was announced that he would be named Attorney General, many in the cannabis industry predicted doom.
Sessions is no longer striking fear into cannabis activists and his own boss as of today. Now, facing a House of Representatives that is now run by the Democrats, Trump will be tasked with finding a new AG. As of right now, Matthew Whitaker is the interim Attorney General. Prior to that, he was Chief of Staff to the Attorney General.
