MLB legend Darryl Strawberry survived many up’s and down’s while playing for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. Most of which involved his issues with hardcore drugs and alcohol. Late in life, he did overcome his own addiction. Strawberry has been living a clean life.
So it’s no shock that when TMZ asked the former outfielder about his feelings on legalization and athletes using cannabis that his answer would be what it was.
Most people don’t understand marijuana is a drug,” he said. “… It’s just the beginning. Starting people off when they’re young and then it leads to everything else. … Most young people start off with marijuana. It’s a gateway. I started with marijuana when I was young—14, 15 years old—and it led me to everything else.”
Strawberry is in the minority. More athletes, current and former are looking for alternative pain options.
