The Legend of Dame Grease, Good Chemistry & 2019: 5 Takeways From “2009”

Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y ‘2009’

If you’re a fan of Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y, then their collab album 2009 has been on rotation since midnight.

Their first joint album since How To Fly, the 14-track album was just what their fans wanted as the two prep their tour.

After giving the album a listen, the good people over at CashColorCannabis give you 55 things you should take away from the album.

5. Dame Grease, Dame Grease, Dame Grease.

Harlem’s own Dame Grease became a go-to hitmaker in hip-hop during the late 90’s and early 2000’s. His work with The Lox, DMX, JAY Z lives today in the minds and on the playlists of 90’s kids. But Dame and his sound didn’t just fade to Black when eras changed. He would later hook up with French Montana and Max B in between running his own label.

This morning, rap heads woke up to hearing classic Dame Grease production thanks to 2009. Dame crafted “Garage Music” “10 Piece” and “Benz Boyz” for the project. “Garage Music” stands-out the most. The track has a fierce 90’s vibe putting listeners in a “Paid In Full” vibe. Thank you to Wiz and Spitta for bringing back Dame Grease for a new generation.

4. When it works, it works

Wiz Khalif and Curren$y “Fly Niggas Do Fly Things”

Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y just work well together. Aside from the fact that they share a love of weed and cars, the two just kind fit. Neither artist overshines the other. Instead, they complement each other as if they’ve been working as a group for years. Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 10-years to get a full album from the dynamic duo.

3. One-time for the weed!

Khalifa Kush

We all know that the two smoke a lot of weed. By now, you should also know that they both have their own strains.

Wiz Khalifa’s Khalifa Kush and Spitta’s Andretti OG get referenced throughout the song like a subtle commercial for anyone who lives in a recreational state.

2. Less is more

Dame Grease, Dj Fresh, Monstar Beatz, Cardo. Ty Dolla $ign, Problem. Four producers and two artists. Rather than smother the project with various sounds from different producers and get an all-star line-up of A-list acts to join them, the two kept the album pretty minimal. That’s a good thing for the listener. Wiz and Spitta didn’t take fans all over the map sonically. That makes for a smooth listen. The main reason you can play this album in one sitting is due to this.

1.2019

The last time we got an album from the two was 2009. I hope it doesn’t take another 10-years to deliver a new album, but if it does, I still look forward to that. By that time, the two artists will be deep in their careers and lives. Wiz will be dealing with a high school aged son and Spitta will be in the early years of his fatherhood. I’m sure they’d still be smoking, driving fast cars and rocking crowds. It would be dope to hear what a 2019 project would sound like.
