Sen. Kamala Harris has officially thrown her hat in the ring and will be a candidate for President in 2020.
Her supporters cheered when she made her announcement, but there were many who were skeptical of Kamala due to her past record as a prosecutor. In an attempt to pivot and appeal to a new base, she’s done a flip on her former stance on cannabis.
Today, she announced her support for legalization of cannabis.
“Half my family’s from Jamaica,” the California Democrat said, laughing when asked to respond to those who think she’s opposed to legalizing recreational use of the drug. “Are you kidding me?”
She made the comment while on The Breakfast Club.
““And I inhaled,” she added, joking in reference to President Bill Clinton’s comments on the campaign trail in 1992 that he smoked marijuana but “didn’t inhale it.”
In 2010, she was opposed to cannabis. She later voiced her support for medical marijuana in 2015.
