Earlier this year, Baltimore City’s State Attorney Marilyn Mosely announced that her department would no longer prosecute people for cannabis possession.
Mosby cited the “disproportionate impact that the war on drugs has had on communities of color,” and declared, “There is no public safety value in prosecuting marijuana possession” in her announcement.
That doesn’t mean Baltimore Police will stop arresting.
The police department says they will still arrest anyone in possession of 10 grams or more even if they won’t be prosecuted.
Sounds like a massive waste of time, right?
The prosecutors and police are not on the same page. That leaves the citizens in limbo. Read more about Baltimore and their “catch-and-release” issue here.
