Alkhemist Introduces Sustainable Hemp Denim Collection

From the makers of James Jeans, Alkhemist launches a debut collection of premium Hemp IncorporatedTM denim for women and men. Alkhemist denim is constructed using a blend of hemp for sutainability, cotton for comfort, and a bit of lycra for stretch and elasticity where needed.

The debut collection comprises of chic wardrobe essentials from jacket to jeans in timeless neutrals. Driven by the philosophy of human healing and social responsibility, the Los Angeles based brand aims to create a call to action from brand to consumers to rise up and take a stand on sustainability.

“Incorporating hemp fabrics into our product line has been a multi-year research and development process, ” commented James Chung, CEO and Founder of Alkhemist and James Jeans. “The challenge with hemp has been getting a final product that meets our exacting standards for fit, comfort, style and durability. But our engineering and design process has paid off.”

Leveraging the craftsmanship honed over 15 years, Alkhemist jeans adopts and builds on the same body-sculpting fit and feel mastered at its acclaimed subsidiary brand James Jeans. Each pair of jeans is developed with the brand’s own hemp fabrications and processing using a special resin for a resulting product that embodies both comfort and sustainability.

The Dry Aged Denim process we long ago developed in collaboration with Barneys New York has a newfound purpose with Alkhemist Hemp IncorporatedTM Jeans. Hemp can save our planet and can now be enjoyed as a premium denim product with uncompromised fit, quality and style,” said Seun Lim, Creative Director of
Alkhemist.

The team behind Alkhemist is proud to consider themselves engineers of nature and agents of wellness.

Today, Hemp has over 50,000 uses and counting. Hemp is 10 times stronger than cotton, has anti-odor and anti-bacterial properties, and resists fading and abrasions even after repeat washing. Moreover, Hemp uses 82% less water and leaves a 50% less of a carbon footprint compared to Cotton. More information about the benefits of hemp can be found on Alkhemist’s website.

“With the passage of the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, we felt the timing dovetailed perfectly with our hemp development efforts. We are excited to lead the growing movement to incorporate hemp into a more environmentally responsible and sustainable lifestyle by launching our premium collection for the luxury market,” noted Conrad Yun, Vice Chairman of Alkhemist.
