Did you know that Feb. 4 is National Tobacco Day? The purpose of National Tobacco Day is to spread awareness about the risks and harms of tobacco use in order to decrease tobacco sales. Approximately 6 million people are hospitalized or die from tobacco related health issues yearly. Yet the tobacco industry still makes millions of dollars, especially within communities of color and that’s on purpose. Tobacco companies spend the most time and money marketing to minorities
“Tobacco companies have strategically marketed tobacco products to appeal to racial and ethnic communities for decades,” according to The Truth Initiative “Research shows that more tobacco retailers exist in areas with larger black, Hispanic and low-income populations. More stores selling tobacco means more exposure to point-of-sale marketing, which Big Tobacco spent more than $8 billion on in 2014. Point-of-sale promotions—not just in-store advertising, but things like discounts and product displays behind check-out counters.”
For myself and many of my peers our first experience with smoking anything was with tobacco. As much as I hate to admit it in college I would puff on black and milds or have an occasional cigarette during social occasions. Even my first weed blunt was rolled with a Swisher Sweet. As nostalgic as those products are they were also very unhealthy and I made a full switch to smoking out of hemp wraps only.
Although Swishers and Backwoods are still highly popular choices from blunt wraps there’s are very similar and healthier hemp alternatives. In a way the tobacco industry and the cannabis industry are competing and cannabis, cbd, and hemp are all attracting new users and keeping connoisseurs interested in newer cleaner ways to consume. Here are a few suggestions of hemp and/or cbd wraps that you can try out the next time you want to roll a really nice blunt.
