Cypress Hill frontman B-Real is making more moves in the cannabis space. The owner of five Dr. Greenthumb’s shops in California has announced a partnership with the Atlanta-based SweetWater Brewing Company, who’s known for their 420 Strain beers.
Insane OG has been added to the line that includes 420 Extra Pale Ale, Chocolope Stout, G13 IPA, Mango Kush Wheat Ale, Hop Hash Easy IPA and Hazy Double IPA (part of the Dank Tank series).
“Our flagship 420 Extra Pale Ale was first brewed 23 years ago,” Sweetwater’s publicist Tucker Sarkisian tells CelebStoner. “This crisp, flavorful West Coast style pale ale carries the ‘420’ moniker as a nod to the lifestyle we live and love. In 2018, we introduced 420 Strain, a brand new line of beers that pushes the envelope of brewing by marrying select hops and botanically-sourced terpenes with a proprietary hemp flavor. Each starts with a delicious base brew, then our brewers and lab scientists work to find the perfect complementary blend of botanically sourced, strain-specific terpenes and proprietary hemp flavor to emulate the aroma of a cannabis strain.
For the first 420 Strain release, after tinkering for months with various terpenes and our hemp flavor blend, the team nailed a recipe that emulates the legendary G13 strain of cannabis, and perfectly complemented a phenomenal IPA; the result was a sum that’s even greater than its parts, 420 Strain G13 IPA, which quickly became our second bestseller behind flagship 420, and was the No. 1 new craft brand in 2019. Next, the team discovered the blend was perfect for our juicy wheat ale, Mango Kush. The 420 Strain brand family is now up to five different beers, which includes Chocolope Stout, Insane OG Mexican Lager and Trainwreck Double IPA.”
Insane OG, named after Cypress Hill’s hit song, “Insane in the Membrane,” is described as a Mexican-style craft lager. When B-Real visited the brewery, he said,” We’re going to attempt to get our flavor into the beer. A little bit of that experience in a bottle. The Insane experience in a bottle.”
Sarkisian calls the “collaboration a natural fit. There’s a mutual respect and admiration between SweetWater and B-Real. We’ve always been fans of his work with Cypress Hill, and also that he’s leveraged his celebrity status to become one of the most influential cannabis advocates. B-Real aligns with our culture and ‘420 lifestyle’ that we’re known for and bring to our consumers through experiences like our 420 Fest (which Cypress Hill has headlined). The 420 Strain series is a tribute to some of our favorite strains. With Insane OG we hope it raises awareness of B-Real and the great work he continues to do as a cannabis advocate.”
