This year, Dre’s The Chronic will be added to the Library of Congress.
Every year, the National Recording Registery nominates 25 songs and albums that they feel should be “worthy of preservation because of their cultural, historical, and aesthetic importance” in shaping American music.”
The Chronic will be added alongside Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You,” Selena’s Ven Conmigo, Tina Turner’s Private Dancer and Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.”
Dre’s first solo album, would be the first time that the world would hear names like Snoop Dogg, Daz Dilinger, Kurupt and Lady of Rage would go on to sell millions of copies and bring gangster music to the mainstream.
