All the Smoke: 5 Battles We’d Like To See

Since being asked to stay inside, the creative ways artists have found to connect with fans has been amazing.

Everything from virtual concerts to listening parties, the music world has gone far to keep us all sane.

Something that new that has been entered into the ecosphere have been battles. Not like battles in music are new, but thanks to streaming services and social media, battles have taken on a new life.

For the last few weeks, music fans have seen everyone from Teddy Riley and Babyface The RZA and Dj Premier to Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.

Thanks to the Internet and Covid-19, we have been blessed to see some of our favorites go track-for-track for music supremacy.

While the quality in talent has been good, some of the proposed battles have left a lot to be desired for. I’m not hype for a Ludacris vs Nelly battle, are you?

But there are a few battles I wouldn’t mind seeing. We collaborated with Music2Smoke2 to compile a list of 5 battles we would love to see happen.

T.I. vs Jeezy “Trap Off”

Jeezy vs T.I.

It would be only right that the Kings of the Trap would have a head-to-head battle. They both have a lengthy enough good music and stories to keep a crowd entertained.

Can you imagine Jeezy dropping “Soul Survivor” after T I. comes through with “24’s” That’s a night you wouldn’t want to miss. All the old dope boys would out on their Sunday nights best for this one.

Lil Kim vs Queen Latifah

Lil Kim vs Queen Latifah

Queen of the Conscious vs Queen of the Raunch.

With this battle, we are talking generations, styles and subject matter. Kim vs Latifah would be a contrast of styles for sure. But when it comes to paving a way for women in rap, you’d be hard pressed to name to more iconic acts.

Both have their own hits as well as features. Kim’s first three albums alone could be enough to hold her in this fight.

But Latifahs catalog of “Come into My House” all the way to “U.N.I.T.Y” could draw enough emotion and nostalgia that it could tip the scales in her direction.

Either way, I’m here for it.

Soulja Boy vs Lil B the Based God

Soulja Boy Tell Em’ vs Lil B the Based God

This might break the Internet. Like Mark Zuckerberg might have to restart the Instagram servers several time to hold all this greatness.

In one corner we have a man who has been making hits since before he was out of high school in Soulja Boy Tell’em. In the other corner, we have a man who has created a cult following so serious, fans offer up their significant others to him as tribute.

Musically, Soulja should have this in the bag.

Quiet as it’s kept, Soulja has been a part of a lot of hit records. His own, (“Crank Dat ” “Gucci Bandana”, etc) and others (“Yass Bishh”, “Marco Polo”). That’s not including the multiplatinum artists who have sampled him like Beyonce.

Yet, Based God has the fans and lengthy catalog to keep the pace. I want to be there when Soulja plays “Pretty Boy Swag” and Lil B says, “that’s sounds like a Based God record.”

Let’s just hope no one gets cursed in the process of setting this up.

E-40 vs Too Short

E-40 vs Too Short

One time label mates and brothers from the same soil, this one would be epic.

Music history and Bay Area lore could be shared between these two. The stories 40 and Short have could ruin careers probably. But the music would make it all worth while.

Knowing these two, an album might come out of this.

From their own records to guest spots, 40 and Short would put on a show I’m sure.

Meek Mill vs Fabolous

Meek Mill vs Fabolous

This battle would be for those who wear fitted caps and remind you that everything after 09′ was trash. I’ll be in that room.

Meek and Fab both made a name for their self through mixtapes. Since their start, they both have bloomed into major names in Hip-Hop with many hit records under their respective belts.

This would be a grand display of lyrical ability, great music and world-class shit talking! Definitely would be worth the price of admission.
