A Quiet Giant: Honoring the Legacy of William “Billy” Rennalls
The cannabis world has lost a pioneer. Jamaica has lost a son.
William “Billy” Rennalls passed away recently. Though he had been living with lung cancer, we cannot confirm if that was the direct cause of his passing. What we can confirm is that the cannabis community, particularly in Jamaica, has lost one of its most dedicated advocates.
Billy Rennalls was more than just a champion for legalization. He was a builder of green solutions long before they were trendy or profitable. His name may not have rung out in headlines or award shows, but his legacy was planted in the soil—literally. From pushing for policy reform to supporting grassroots growers, Billy believed in the power of cannabis to heal, liberate, and uplift communities often overlooked and underserved.
And here’s the truth: we didn’t know him. Not the way we should have. Not the way someone like Billy deserved to be known. That realization weighs heavily on us. Sadly, we at CashColorCannabis are just now discovering the immense impact of a man who gave so much to the plant, his people, and the earth.
In this work, we often talk about uplifting Black and Caribbean voices in cannabis. We spotlight visionaries, trendsetters, and fighters. And somehow, we missed Billy. We missed the quiet giant who didn’t seek fame but stayed grounded in purpose. It’s a shame we’re paying attention only now, in his absence.
But this is not just a eulogy. It’s a commitment. A commitment to look closer, dig deeper, and do better. To honor unsung heroes before they’re gone. Billy Rennalls may have left this physical world, but his vision—for a greener, freer, more just cannabis space—lives on.
To his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched, we offer our deepest condolences. And to Billy, thank you for your devotion, courage, and roots. May your journey onward be as powerful as the one you took here.
Rest in power.
