Weather the Storm: Standing With Jamaica
Jamaica means a lot to the culture — and I’m not just talking about beef patties, bud, and beaches. The country of Jamaica has exported so much flavor, style, and soul to the rest of the world that it’s only right we do all we can to give back.
When Hurricane Melissa tore through the island, it didn’t just damage property — it tore through communities, farms, and families. Reports say more than 45,000 farmers were affected, with losses totaling in the millions. People’s livelihoods, generations of growers, and a core piece of our global Black cannabis story have been shaken.
Thankfully, some of our own have stepped up. Groups like Toke & Tour and Upling are leading the charge — raising money and offering support to rebuild what was lost. Upling teamed up with Canex Jamaica and Cookies Jamaica to pledge $50,000 in direct aid for Jamaican growers, while Toke & Tour is rallying folks worldwide to donate and share resources to help make a difference on the ground.
Now’s the time for all of us to support the folks who are there, in the country, doing the work. If you can’t donate, share their campaigns, raise awareness, and remind people that cannabis culture doesn’t stop at state lines.
Here’s how you can help:
- Choose donation channels that are transparent and local — those with boots on the ground in Jamaica.
- Share these relief campaigns on your social media and amplify the voices of those directly impacted.
- Consider how your advertising, sponsorships, or editorial efforts (on CashColorCannabis and beyond) can highlight or partner with these initiatives, bringing visibility where it’s needed most.
Show Jamaica what solidarity looks like. Support these groups. Support the people rebuilding. Because when the island rises, we all rise.
