Romania Seeks Nine Months for Wiz Khalifa
Wiz Khalifa made a name for himself through his indie grind and his penchant for consuming fine flowers.
The latter seems to have him in some of the hottest water possible, as the country of Romania may ask that Wiz serve a nine-month sentence for cannabis.
The incident stems from a performance Wiz had in 2024. Wiz, per usual, lit up a fat joint on stage. That is a major no-no in the country. Police arrested him after his performance. In addition to smoking on stage, authorities found 18 grams of cannabis on him.
He was fined 3,600 lei ($830) for illegal possession of dangerous drugs. Later, prosecutors appealed the court’s decision, pushing for a harsher sentence.
In what appears to be an attempt to make an example out of the rapper, they are now seeking a nine-month jail sentence.
Romania has some of the harsher drug laws in Europe. Possession of cannabis for personal use is criminalized and can result in a prison sentence of between three months and two years, or a fine.
It is unclear whether Romanian authorities will attempt to file an extradition request for Wiz, since Khalifa is a U.S. citizen and does not reside in Romania.
We will expand on this story in the next episode of our “Stay Loud: A Four Twenty Friendly Travel Series,” where we explore countries with the harshest cannabis laws.
