To Your Front Door: Cannabis Delivery May Be Coming To Georgia

Patients in Georgia may soon have more options to access their medicine.

A plan to deliver medical marijuana straight to the doorsteps of patients across Georgia may soon be approved.

The new rule would allow products to be mailed or shipped by private carriers like UPS and FedEx.

Over 46,000 people in Georgia have a medical marijuana license, and number is quickly rising.

Medical marijuana is now sold only in dispensaries and pharmacies.

“What we are trying to do as a state is to provide greater access to a medicine that can actually be very useful to these folks,” said Gary Long, Botanical Sciences CEO.

Qualifying conditions for medical marijuana use include chronic pain and cancer, MS, PTSD and seizure disorder.

Long said patients would simply order products online, provide qualifying license information and have it delivered.

“Once we have established who that individual is through the safeguard measure, we can establish a buy-sell relationship where we actually ship the product to them,” he said.

Critics of home delivery worry products could get in the hands of minors, but Long say there will be rules in place to prevent that from happening with mail delivery.

“Affirmative identification that that this is the patient that is the one on the card, also making sure they sign for the product, verifying who they are,” Long said.

The Medical Cannabis Commission in Georgia will vote on a rule change allowing home delivery late next month.
